The time has come when I need to start getting rid of stuff. It also means that it’s the perfect time to have a car boot sale to try and raise a bit of cash!
My friends that know me well will know that books are definitely my downfall. This week I started sorting out all my books under strict instructions by my flat mate to make one pile to go and one pile to be sent back to Manchester. I ended up with about 10 piles – ones to keep, ones to return to their original owners (sorry Ross Kettles, I still have your Keith Green sheet music book!) , ones that I wanted to read again right now (like I have the time), etc. It brought back memories of my friends helping me move flats to Morrison Street, one of the most congested streets of Edinburgh, and rolling their eyes at me as box after box of books had to be balanced as we scooted through heavy traffic and then climbed up 4 flights of stairs. Thank you, Nadia and Phil….
Anyway, despite my abysmal failure to downsize my books, there’s something that feels good about getting rid of all my unnecessary stuff. When Jesus sent out the 12 disciples he said to them
“Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts – no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff.”
The Message version states “Travel light”. So I will have a bag for my journey (if I don’t lose it at the airport like last time) – but it is all about trusting in Jesus for what I don’t have and knowing that he takes care of all of our needs (and thanking Him for Kindle!) .
If you want to join me in having a bit of a clear out, I would happily take your stuff to sell! If you’re in Edinburgh and want to drop anything by my house or by Edinburgh Elim, I will gladly take it for my car boot sale. I need stuff by 12th of October – drop me an email! Thank you!
